Tachograph Calculator
Staying within UK and EU drivers' hours rules is one of the most common compliance headaches for HGV drivers — get it wrong and it's not just a fine, it can put your licence at risk.
Our free Tachograph Hours Calculator tracks your daily, weekly, and fortnightly driving limits in one place, factoring in required breaks and rest periods, so you always know exactly how much driving time you've got left today — and this week.
The rules this tool is based on:
- Max daily driving: 9 hours (extendable to 10 hours, up to twice a week)
- A break of 45 minutes (or split 15+30 minutes) is required after 4.5 hours of driving
- Daily rest: normally 11 hours (can be reduced to 9 hours, up to 3 times between weekly rests)
- Max weekly driving: 56 hours
- Max driving over any two consecutive weeks: 90 hours
- Weekly rest of at least 45 hours is required after 6 consecutive 24-hour driving periods (can be reduced to 24 hours with compensating rest taken later)
This tool provides general guidance based on standard GB/EU drivers' hours rules and does not account for every exemption or special circumstance. Always refer to your own tachograph record and official DVSA guidance for compliance decisions.
